Biography

Dr. Asma Ghatea Oriabi is a Professor in the College of Biotechnology at Al-Nahrain University, Iraq, specializing in Plant Biotechnology and Applied Biological Sciences. She earned her PhD in Plant Biotechnology from the College of Science, Al-Nahrain University, in 2013, following an MSc in Plant Biotechnology in 2007 and a BSc in Biotechnology in 2005.

Dr. Oriabi has extensive academic, teaching, research, administrative, and training experience. Her research focuses primarily on plant biotechnology, with broader expertise in plant molecular biology, transgenic plants, plant tissue culture, phytochemistry, medicinal plants, industrial plant biotechnology, biofuel production, nanobiotechnology, and environmental biotechnology. She has supervised one PhD student, 12 MSc students, and 21 undergraduate graduation research projects.

Throughout her academic career at Al-Nahrain University, Dr. Oriabi has undertaken numerous leadership and administrative responsibilities, including roles related to quality assurance, postgraduate studies, scientific affairs, continuing education, measurement and evaluation, training, and academic development. She has also served as an Editorial Manager for the Iraqi Journal of Bioscience and Biomedical.

Dr. Oriabi is an experienced certified trainer and has obtained professional certifications in human development, self-development, time management, stress management, effective communication, team building, educational design, digital content development, quality of education, and scientific research methodology. She has served as a certified ministerial trainer on the IQ-Learn platform and as a trainer in sustainable development, energy support, and emissions reduction.

Her contribution to academic and community development is particularly notable through her involvement in the Continuing Education Center at Al-Nahrain University. Since 2020, she has contributed to organizing and managing scientific, cultural, and community-service training programs and has been involved in the implementation of more than 119 training workshops and panel discussions.

Dr. Oriabi has received several honors for her academic and research achievements, including the Al-Nahrain University Award for the Best Doctoral Dissertation, the Shield of Excellence and Gold Medal at the First International Conference of the Faculty of Biotechnology, the Scientific Creativity Medal at the Fifth International Conference of the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, and the Young Iraqi Researcher Award from the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in 2023.

Her research achievements also include receiving a CRDF International grant for laboratory rehabilitation and safety improvements, as well as obtaining a patent related to the production of zinc oxide nanoparticles and their synergistic effect with streptomycin on cancer cells. She has participated in numerous conferences, workshops, training programs, and academic committees, contributing to both scientific advancement and community engagement.

Dr. Asma Ghatea Oriabi continues to contribute to plant biotechnology, academic development, scientific training, research supervision, and community service, with a particular interest in applying biotechnology and nanobiotechnology to biological, agricultural, environmental, and biomedical challenges.
